Voice-O-Graph Patent Plate

New Studio Artwork: Voice-O-Graph Brass Patent Plate

Back in May, we added some new artwork to the studio stairwell: a poster-sized reproduction of the metal sign on the door of a 1947 Voice-O-Graph. Today, we’re adding a new piece of oversize artwork inspired by these iconic machines.

New Studio Artwork: “Record Delivered Here”

Today, we’ve added another piece of artwork inspired by the legendary Voice-O-Graph “automatic recording studio”.

New Studio Artwork: Los Ilegales de Lempira

A few years back, we had the pleasure of working with DC-area Norteño band Los Ilegales de Lempira on their album, “Tequila y Bucana.”  In addition to recording the album here at ULS, I also did the photography and graphic design for the project.  We’ve added a new piece of artwork commemorating their work here at ULS.

“Step In! Record Your Voice”

Since we started planning this facility in 2010, I have been on a quest to come up with some cool “vintage” artwork to decorate the studio’s stairwell and hallways. Along the way, though, I have found myself really hampered by the fact that until much more recent years, recording studios and recording, generally, were not “consumer facing” products.

A Time Will Come For Singing Album Release Party

Last weekend, I flew to Chicago to join Paul Sirvatka for the release of “the Christmas Album 23 Years in the RE-making,” — A Time Will Come for Singing.

Who Are The People in Your Neighborhood?

Over the weekend, we held an open house for friends and neighbors.  One of our neighbors (and hopefully new friends!) mentioned that a certain rock luminary, Greg Munford, lived in our neighborhood.

Graphically Yours: A Time Will Come for Singing

Working remotely, Paul Sirvatka and I recently finished the final mixes for the special edition re-release of the St. Petronille Contemporary Choir’s 1995 album, A Time Will Come For Singing. Here’s the latest.

HAPPENING TODAY: AES Panel with John Storyk

I am speaking on a panel at the Audio Engineering Society show this afternoon at 2 PM with our good friend and studio designer, John Storyk. John is leading a panel discussion on the challenges of building small studios. This is the second time I’ve been on a panel with John, and these are always fun. If you’re in New York for the AES Show, I hope you’ll come check it out!

Oh How The Years Go By: Wrapping Up A Time Will Come For Singing

In the “nothing ever goes as planned” department, it’s been nearly a year since my good friend Paul Sirvatka and I have put in any work on the special edition of the (now) 23 year old album, A Time Will Come For Singing.  But Paul is back this week, and the finish line is in sight.
